Redwood - Year 3/4

Welcome to Redwood Class

Welcome to Redwood Class. We are a mix of Year 3 and Year 4 children and our class teacher is Mrs Kelly.

Keep an eye on our class page for exciting updates and information about what we are learning in class.

Our book-corner this year is Space themed and will provide us with a comfy and inspiring area in which to enjoy our favourite books.

Our topic for term 2 is 'Tremors!' We will be looking at the different types of rock and their formation, as well as volcanoes and earthquakes.

If you would like to do any research of your own at home on these areas, please bring in what you have learnt to share with the class. We would love to share what you have learnt independently, to enhance our understanding of this topic.

Stickability Quizzes

After each topic in maths, we have been giving the children quizzes to check their recollection of key aspects. Many of you would have seen these at Parents' Evening as they are a useful tool to make sure that children are still able to use important skills, even when the maths that they are currently learning has moved on. 

We will be adding these quizzes once the children have taken them, so that you can support your children with any areas that they are not confident with.  

Problem Solvers!

This term we have been looking at place value of three and four digit numbers, and adding these values together in a variety of contexts. We have been applying these skills in different situations and understand that when we are faced with real-life problems, it is important to look for the relevant and irrelevant information. 

Guided Reading

During our guided reading time, we look at extracts from fact and fiction books to practise our comprehension skills. So that we are able to provide the children with a wide range of reading material, we do not often use more that one chapter from a text before moving on. We have decided to share the titles and authors of the books we have been using, in case your child has enjoyed the extract and would like to read on. We hope that you find this useful when choosing potential reading material for your child.
