School Council
In September, each class vote to choose their representative on the School Council. Throughout the year the representatives collect their class' ideas for improvements they would like to make in our school. These ideas are discussed at meetings and then go forward to be considered by the Senior Leadership Team. Some of the changes brought about recently by the school council include: introducing a variety of new clubs; changes to playground equipment; restructuring the school rewards. The School Council also carry out pupil surveys to collect pupil opinions on whole school issues. They learn about local government, for example by visiting the Town Council offices.
Eco Committee
Led by Mrs Whitaker, The Eco Team are responsible for ensuring our school is as environmentally friendly as it can be; they also help to look after our school and keep it tidy. They make sure everyone remembers to recycle and save electricity and water by displaying posters and signs around the school. They are also busy working on a project to develop a spiritual garden around the pond area and are busy collecting ideas from the pupils. The Committee aims to make the area accessible to the whole school at all times of year whilst developing the area as a good habitat for wildlife and plants.
Charities Committee
Our school Charities Committee work extremely hard to raise funds for a variety of charitable causes including; Children in Need, Tearfund, Barnados, NSPCC, Porchlight and Comic Relief. The Committee generate ideas for fundraisers and help to organise them; running stalls, creating posters, holding competitions amongst many other things. As a result of their hardwork and the generous donations made by Churchill families the school have raised a considerable amount of money for worthwhile causes and our local community.
Anti-Bullying Ambassadors
Staff at Churchill promote a clear anti-bullying message which is supported by a group of pupils who are trained in helping their peers to resolve friendship issues on the playground. Each year group has two ambassadors who are identified on the playground by wearing high-visibility jackets. The ambassadors follow a code of practice, VIP (Verbal, Indirect, and Physical) that they use to help them decide how best to respond to any problems they encounter.
