Science

Vision:

At Churchill, we believe that children should be excited by science as through its study they learn about how their world works. Children today need to be prepared for the challenges of tomorrow – many of which could be solved by advances in science. Engaging, practical science lessons throughout the school will help to develop our children’s ability to ask questions and solve problems.

Aims:

  1. To provide the children with regular opportunities to ask and answer their own scientific questions so stimulating their natural curiosity and helping to develop more independent thinking.

  2. To ensure children use the language and vocabulary of science to express their ideas and explain what they have learned.

  3. For children to explore scientific concepts through investigations and practical activities so they can really ‘see’ science in action.

  4. To foster a problem-solving approach to scientific learning which gives our children opportunities to apply what has been learned to practical applications.

  5. To develop our children’s ability to make links between different areas of learning, both within the science curriculum and across curriculum areas.
