The Pupil Premium is an allocation of funding provided to schools to support children who may be vulnerable to underachievement. The amount received is determined by the number of children who receive or who have ever received Free School Meals; children who are in care; adopted from care; or those under special guardianship orders as well as children in service families. Research shows that pupils from these groups underachieve compared to their peers. The Pupil Premium is provided in order to support these pupils in reaching their potential by accelerating their progress.
Schools are free to spend the Pupil Premium Grant (PPG) as they see fit. However schools are held accountable for how they have used the additional funding.
